Sankt Georgen im Attergau is a small market town on the western shore of the Attersee in Upper Austria. This 10 Heller note belongs to the vast wave of Austrian municipal Notgeld issued between 1919 and 1921, when the post-war collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left local governments printing their own fractional emergency money simply to make change. The Marktgemeinde had no printing infrastructure of its own — these issues were typically contracted to regional commercial printers, and quality varied accordingly.
The Jaksch reference JPR0888Ic distinguishes this as one of several typographic variants within the St. Georgen series, differentiated by paper stock or overprint detail rather than face value alone.
