Sigharting is a small village in Upper Austria, and this note is one of thousands of Austrian municipal Notgeld issues that flooded the country between 1919 and 1922 as small change effectively vanished from circulation. The postwar coinage shortage was severe enough that villages with no banking infrastructure whatsoever were printing their own fractional currency — Gemeinde Sigharting among them.
The Jaksch reference places this in the documented Upper Austrian series, but municipal issues at this level were printed in tiny quantities and redeemed locally, which means survivors are disproportionately scarce relative to their historical obscurity.
