10 Heller Sierning

Sierning is a small market town in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities in 1920, it was forced into the notgeld business by a catastrophic shortage of small change following the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system. These local emergency issues were printed in enormous variety across the country — Emil Priebel was a regional printer who handled several such commissions, operating well below the tier of the major Viennese printing houses.

The JPR0995c designation indicates this is one of multiple denominations in the Sierning series, each issued under municipal authority rather than any banking institution. Redemption was theoretically guaranteed by the issuing commune, a promise worth exactly as much as the commune's finances at the time.
