Comments

Senftenberg is a small market town in the Kremstal valley, and this 10 Heller note is one of the tens of thousands of Austrian Notgeld issues that flooded the country between 1919 and 1921 when small-denomination coinage vanished almost entirely from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply never reminted after the war's disruptions. Municipal and even parish-level authorities printed their own fractional notes to keep local commerce moving, with no standardized oversight and wildly varying print quality.

The extremely small format reflects the low face value, printed cheaply and intended for rapid local redemption rather than any lasting role.
