| Obverse description | Printed in purple-violet on cream paper, the obverse carries the heading 'Kassenschein der Marktgemeinde Senftenberg über' at the top, flanked by decorative vine-leaf ornamental borders. A central oval vignette presents a view of a hilltop castle ruin above a riverside landscape with a church tower, enclosed within an elaborate foliate guilloche surround; the denomination '10 Heller' is inscribed to either side of the vignette in large numerals and text. At lower left, the validity clause 'Gültig bis 31. Dezember 1920.' appears alongside three manuscript facsimile signatures, while an upper-right vignette panel shows the numeral '10' within a wreath and a second small castle vignette below with the issue date 'am 15. Senftenberg is a small market town in the Krems valley of Lower Austria, and this 10 Heller note is one of hundreds of Notgeld issues that Austrian municipalities were forced to produce from 1919 onward as the newly truncated republic hemorrhaged coinage. The central government simply could not supply enough small change to a fractured economy still reeling from wartime requisitions and the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system.
The Jaksch/Pick reference places this within a documented local series, though Senftenberg issues are not commonly encountered outside Austrian specialist collections.
