Austrian Notgeld at the municipal level proliferated after the First World War when the chronic shortage of small change — driven by coin hoarding and metal scarcity — forced towns and market communes to print their own emergency fractional currency. Senftenberg, a small Lower Austrian market community, issued this 10 Heller note under that same pressure in 1920, well into the period when such local scrip had become almost routine across the region.
The JPR0993f designation within the Jaksch catalog places it among the later Notgeld issues, by which point the Austrian crown itself was already in accelerating collapse.
