Roitham is a small Upper Austrian village — today absorbed into the municipality of Scharnstein — that issued this Heller note as part of the extraordinary wave of Austrian Notgeld produced between 1919 and 1921. The postwar collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left small communities without adequate coinage in circulation, forcing Gemeinden across Austria and Germany to print their own fractional emergency money. Roitham was among the smallest issuers in the region.

Josef Kastenhaber's signature as authorizing official is the primary identifying detail tying this note to its specific municipal issuer.
