Reichental im Mühlkreis is a small municipality in Upper Austria, and this 10 Heller Notgeld was issued during the acute coin shortage that gripped Austria in the years immediately following the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy. Local communities across Austria were authorized to produce their own emergency small-denomination notes to substitute for hoarded or simply absent coinage — by 1920 several thousand such issues existed, ranging from crude rubber-stamped slips to elaborately printed collectibles.
The Jaksch/Pick reference JPR0827Ia places this firmly within the documented Upper Austrian series. The "Ia" suffix typically denotes a first printing variant within that municipality's issue.
