Purkersdorf's Notgeld issues of 1920 belong to the vast wave of municipal emergency money that flooded Austria following the collapse of the Habsburg economy — small towns printing their own scrip because reliable small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from circulation. What distinguishes Purkersdorf's output from the bulk of that deluge is that the notes were printed locally rather than farmed out to one of the specialist Vienna printers who handled most provincial Notgeld runs.

Three signatories authenticate this note — the Bürgermeister and both Vizebürgermeister — which was unusually thorough countersigning for a 10 Heller piece worth almost nothing even at issue.
