Poysdorf issued these Heller notes as Notgeld — emergency small-change scrip produced by hundreds of Austrian municipalities after the First World War, when metal coinage had effectively vanished from everyday commerce. The hyperinflationary spiral that consumed the early Austrian Republic made coin hoarding rational; local governments filled the gap themselves.
The JPR0776b series indicates a second printing variant, suggesting demand was sufficient to require reissue — unusual for a wine-growing market town of Poysdorf's modest size in the northern Weinviertel.
