Opmerkingen

Pottenstein is a small market town in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of similar municipalities it issued emergency paper money — Notgeld — during the acute coin shortage that gripped Austria from around 1920. These hyperlocally issued notes were printed in tiny quantities, redeemable only within the issuing community, and had no legal tender status beyond that narrow geographic scope. The two signatories, Alfred Schano and Georg Klein, almost certainly held municipal office rather than banking roles.

The JPR reference places this within the Jaksch/Pick Austrian Notgeld cataloguing system. Quantities issued for individual Gemeinde notes of this type were rarely documented, which makes establishing true rarity a persistent problem.
