Pottenstein an der Triesting is a small market town in Lower Austria, and like hundreds of similar municipalities it resorted to issuing its own emergency small change — Notgeld — during and after the First World War, when coin metal was diverted to the war effort and official small denominations effectively vanished from circulation. These hyper-local issues were produced in tiny quantities, often on whatever paper stock the local council could source, and authorized by whoever happened to hold the relevant administrative role at the time.
Alfred Schano and Georg Klein almost certainly held positions on the Marktgemeindeamt — neither name appears in any wider numismatic or historical record, which is itself characteristic of the most obscure Notgeld issues.
