Pöchlarn is a small Danube market town in Lower Austria, better known to medievalists as the legendary home of Margrave Rüdiger in the Nibelungenlied than for its monetary history. This note belongs to the vast wave of Austrian municipal Notgeld issued in the immediate postwar years, when the collapse of the Habsburg economy left local authorities scrambling to produce fractional currency that the central government could no longer supply reliably.

The designer credit "Seliger" almost certainly refers to a local or regional artist engaged for the series — not uncommon practice among Lower Austrian Gemeinden of this period.
