10 Heller Nussdorf a. d. Traisen

One of thousands of Austrian Notgeld issues printed during the postwar economic collapse, when municipal governments across the former empire scrambled to fill a severe shortage of small-denomination coins. Nußdorf an der Traisen is a small Lower Austrian village on the Traisen river, and its council issued these Heller notes as pure emergency scrip — locally valid, locally accountable, signed by the Bürgermeister and Vizebürgermeister to give them whatever authority paper could carry in 1920.

Freitenberg, operating out of Vienna's third district, handled a considerable volume of this provincial Notgeld work. The Jaksc/Pick suffix "a" indicates at least one variant exists within this denomination.
