Neuhofen an der Ybbs issued this 10 Heller note as part of Austria's Notgeld wave — the vast municipal emergency currency effort that followed the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system after 1918. With the new Austrian republic unable to supply adequate small change, thousands of Gemeinden and Märkte printed their own interim scrip, most of it redeemable only locally and only for a limited window.
The JPR0651c series distinguishes this as one of several denominations in Neuhofen's third issue. Collectors should note that Jaksch-catalogued Austrian Notgeld varies considerably in survival rate by municipality — smaller market towns printed shorter runs than industrial centers, and redemption compliance was uneven.
