| Beschrijving voorzijde | Printed on light green paper in dark reddish-brown letterpress throughout, the note is framed by a decorative border of interlocking square and rectangular motifs. The heading 'Kassenschein der Gemeinde Neuhaus.' runs across the top in bold Gothic script, beneath which the denomination 'Zehn Heller' appears twice in flanking panels with the numeral '10' at centre. The lower portion carries a redemption guarantee text, the validity date of 31 August 1920, and the printed facsimile signatures of three municipal officials with their respective titles. |

Neuhaus im Wienerwald is a small village in Lower Austria, and this note is a product of the acute coin shortage that gripped Austria-Hungary in the final years of the First World War. Municipal authorities across the empire — from market towns to tiny rural communes — were authorized to issue small-denomination Notgeld to keep local trade moving after silver and copper coins vanished from circulation almost entirely by 1917. Three local officials signed this note: the Bürgermeister, the Vize-Bürgermeister, and a Gemeinderat, the minimum quorum needed to give it official standing.
