Mondsee is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 10 Heller note is one of the thousands of Notgeld issues that flooded Austria between 1919 and 1921 when chronic coin shortages forced municipalities to print their own small-denomination scrip. The designer credit "Reisenbichler" appears on relatively few Salzkammergut issues, and the signatory Ant. Kaltenbrunner was almost certainly a local municipal official rather than a bank functionary — the entire apparatus of this issue was civic, not financial.
The JPR reference places it within the Jaksch/Pick Notgeld catalog, the standard reference for Austrian emergency money of this period. Mondsee issues are not among the rarer Notgeld series, but complete sets with intact signatures draw consistent collector attention.
