10 Heller Mattsee

Mattsee is a small lakeside parish in the Flachgau district, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities in 1920, it issued Notgeld out of sheer necessity — the postwar coinage shortage left communities unable to make change for even minor transactions. The Jaunrith'sche Buchdruckerei in Salzburg handled a number of these local emergency issues, and the four-signature authorization format here was not unusual for Gemeinde-level paper; it reflects a committee structure rather than any banking apparatus.

The JPR0596a designation places this firmly in the Jaksch catalog of Salzburg provincial Notgeld. Four countersignatures on a 10 Heller note is notably cautious governance for such a trivial denomination.
