Beschrijving voorzijde The left portion of this Notgeld voucher carries the title inscription 'Gut-Schein' in ornate Gothic lettering across the upper field, flanked by the numeral '10' underprinted in amber on both sides. A central oval vignette framed by a laurel wreath and decorative ribbon bows presents a detailed line-engraved view of the Maria Taferl pilgrimage basilica atop its hill, with surrounding buildings and landscape. Two facsimile signatures with their titles appear below the vignette, and a text clause at the foot states the validity period from 1 May to 30 November 1920, with the border formed by a dotted guilloche pattern.

Opmerkingen

Maria Taferl is a village in Lower Austria with a population that has rarely exceeded a few hundred residents — yet like hundreds of other small Austrian communes, it issued its own emergency paper money during the postwar Notgeld period. The collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monetary system after 1918 created severe small-denomination coin shortages, forcing municipalities to fill the gap themselves. These local issues were rarely redeemed under any formal program; most simply circulated until they wore out or were pocketed as curiosities by collectors, which explains the wide range of survival conditions across the type.
