Mannersdorf am Leithagebirge is a small market town in Lower Austria, and like hundreds of similar municipalities, it resorted to issuing its own emergency small change — Notgeld — during the severe coin shortage that followed the collapse of the Habsburg economy. The 1920 date places this squarely in that first postwar wave of Austrian local issues, when the new republic's currency infrastructure was nowhere near capable of supplying adequate coinage to every township.
The Jaksc/Pick reference suffix "a" suggests at least one variant exists for this denomination within the series.
