Austrian Notgeld of this type emerged from a genuine practical crisis: the postwar collapse of small-denomination coinage left rural municipalities unable to conduct ordinary commerce. Lohnsburg, a small Upper Austrian farming community, issued its own emergency paper fractional currency — as hundreds of similar municipalities did between 1919 and 1922 — to fill that gap. The 10 Heller denomination targets the smallest everyday transactions.

The Jaksch reference places this squarely within the documented Upper Austrian series. Collector demand for Austrian Notgeld has long outpaced supply of the rarer village issues, and Lohnsburg examples surface infrequently.
