Opmerkingen

Lochen is a small parish municipality in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of similarly modest communities, it issued Heller notgeld during the acute coin shortage that gripped Austria from 1920 onward. These hyperlocal emissions were a practical fix — printed in small runs by local job printers, authorized by the municipal council, and intended to circulate only within the issuing community.

J. Moser in Braunau am Inn handled printing for several regional municipalities, which accounts for the family resemblance across notgeld from this pocket of Upper Austria. The JPR0559c designation indicates a third paper variant within the Lochen series, suggesting the municipality returned to press at least twice.
