10 Heller Landegg Refugee Camp

The K.K. Barackenverwaltung — the Imperial-Royal Barracks Administration — issued scrip of this type for internal use within the Austro-Hungarian refugee and internee camps that proliferated after 1914. Landegg, in Lower Austria, housed displaced civilians from the eastern war zones, primarily Galicia and Bukovina, as the Russian advances of 1914–15 sent hundreds of thousands westward. Camp scrip prevented residents from accessing the broader economy while giving administrators control over internal purchasing.

Campbell 1582 is among the more obscure Austrian camp issues — documentation on exact print runs and issuing periods remains thin.
