| Obverse description | Printed in dark red and black on a pink paper ground with a repetitive 'Stadtgemeinde Innsbruck' guilloche underprint across the lower half. The upper portion carries the issuer's name in bold Gothic blackletter type, below which a stylised vignette of the Innsbruck city gate (Stadttor) appears in red to the right of the large numeral '10' and denomination 'Heller'. A vertical 'nur gültig bis 31. Mai 1919' inscription runs along the right margin. The note is dated Innsbruck, 1 December 1918 and bears the facsimile signature of the Bürgermeister. |

Austrian municipal notgeld — emergency small change issued by the city of Innsbruck itself, not by any banking institution. The collapse of small-denomination coinage in circulation during the final year of the First World War forced hundreds of Austrian and German towns to print their own fractional paper, and Innsbruck was among them. Wilhelm Greil, who signed this note, was the sitting Bürgermeister of Innsbruck at the time and would go on to play a significant role in the turbulent post-war political transition in Tyrol.
The 1918 Heller notgeld series from Innsbruck is relatively straightforward as Austrian municipal issues go — no silk or leather variants, no elaborate collector editions of the sort that flooded the market in 1920 and 1921.
