Haizendorf is a small parish in Upper Austria, and this note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austria's rural municipalities after the collapse of the Habsburg currency system left small denominations chronically unavailable. Local councils were legally permitted — if not always formally authorized — to plug the gap, and hundreds did. What makes Haizendorf's emission worth noting is the density of its signing authority: four signatories, including both a Bürgermeister and a Vize-Bürgermeister alongside two executive councillors, which is unusually heavy administrative cover for a village-level 10 Heller note.
