One of thousands of Austrian Notgeld issues produced in the chaotic months following the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy, this Haag am Hausruck note reflects the near-total breakdown of small change circulation in 1919. The new Republic of German-Austria had inherited a currency system in freefall, and communities down to the village level were left to print their own emergency fractions when coins simply vanished from everyday trade.
The JPR318-IIa designation suggests a second type within the Haag series — small compositional or authorization differences between variants are common in Lower Austrian Notgeld and can be difficult to distinguish without direct comparison.
