Grödig is a small municipality just south of Salzburg, and this 10 Heller note is part of the vast wave of Austrian Notgeld issued by towns and villages during the severe coin shortages that followed the First World War. The collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left small communities effectively cut off from usable small change, forcing local authorities to print their own emergency fractions.
The Jaksch/Pick reference places this in a well-documented series, but the printed date of 30 April 1945 — if that field in the data refers to the note itself — would be a remarkable outlier worth scrutinizing, as it falls on the final day of Hitler's life and during the last spasms of the Second World War, long after Austrian Notgeld of this type had any monetary relevance.
