Opmerkingen

Brunnenthal is a small commune in Upper Austria, and this 10 Heller notgeld belongs to the vast wave of locally-issued emergency currency that flooded Austria between 1919 and 1921 — a direct consequence of the coin shortage that followed the dissolution of the Habsburg monarchy and the economic dislocation of the immediate postwar years. Municipal authorities across Austria, often with no banking infrastructure whatsoever, were authorized to print their own fractional notes to keep local commerce moving.

The two signatories, Johann Lorenz and Josef Salletmayer, were almost certainly local officials rather than banking figures — typical for village-level notgeld, where the mayor and a council member would authenticate by hand.
