| Reverse lettering | Gutschein der Gemeinde Blindenmarkt Niederösterreich. Die Gemeinde Blindenmarkt gibt auf Grund des Sitzungsbeschlusses vom 19. März 1920 Gutscheine zu 10, 20 und 50 Heller aus und haftet für die Verbindlichkeit, diese Scheine in gesetzlichem Bargeld einzulösen. Diese Gutscheine haben bis 30. Dezember 1920 Gültigkeit, sind unverzinslich und werden im Monate Dezember 1920 im Gemeindeamte Blindenmarkt (Niederösterr.) in gesetzl. Bargeld eingelöst. Blindenmarkt is a small market town in Lower Austria, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities in the immediate postwar period, it issued its own emergency small change — Notgeld — to fill the void left by the collapse of the imperial monetary system and the chronic shortage of metal coinage. The 10 Heller denomination here was printed by Franz Mieslag in nearby Amstetten, a local commercial printer rather than a specialist security firm, which was entirely typical of Austrian municipal Notgeld production.
The print run of over twelve million pieces is notably high for a village-scale issuer, suggesting these circulated well beyond Blindenmarkt itself — regional Notgeld frequently bled across municipal boundaries when coinage remained scarce.
