Bad Ischl's notgeld issues of 1920 belong to the second wave of Austrian emergency currency — not the improvised wartime scrip of 1914–1918, but the deliberately decorative collector-targeted issues that municipalities produced knowing full well philatelists would snap them up. The Kurortsgemeinde had particular motivation to lean into presentation: Bad Ischl had been the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I for over sixty years, and the town was trading aggressively on that imperial nostalgia just two years after the Habsburg collapse.
The 10 Heller denomination was the smallest in the Bad Ischl series, and at the rampant inflation rates of early 1920s Austria, its practical purchasing power was negligible almost from the moment of issue.
