Anzbach is a small municipality in Lower Austria, and its 1921 Heller note belongs to the vast wave of Austrian Notgeld issued after the First World War when severe coin shortages made small-denomination exchange nearly impossible. The municipal issues of this period were not coordinated centrally — each Gemeinde arranged its own printing, which is why a Vienna-based commercial printer like Chwala's Druck in the seventh district appears here serving a rural Lower Austrian community.
Heller denominations became worthless within a few years as Austrian hyperinflation accelerated through 1921–1922, rendering most of these notes unredeemed.
