Opmerkingen

Anthering is a small parish municipality a few kilometers north of Salzburg, and this 10 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld emergency that swept Austrian municipalities after the postwar collapse of the Habsburg monetary system. The central government simply could not supply enough small-denomination coinage to meet daily transactional needs, so hundreds of communes — including ones as modest as Anthering — commissioned their own emergency paper. S. u. K. Müller operated as a local Salzburg printing house, handling several such municipal commissions in the region.

Designer credit to F.X. Stadler is relatively uncommon for a piece at this denomination level, suggesting the commune invested more care in the issue than strictly necessary.
