This note entered circulation just as the German occupation reshaped every aspect of Dutch financial life. De Nederlandsche Bank continued operating under occupation, and the 10 Gulden series remained in use — which made it administratively convenient for German authorities extracting value from the Dutch economy through forced exchange rates and requisition.

Lion Cachet's design work for Enschedé predates the war by years; the artwork was not conceived for wartime use. That the plates survived intact and production continued in Haarlem throughout the occupation is itself a minor institutional footnote worth knowing.
