| 正面描述 | Printed in red-brown, green, and blue, the obverse carries an intaglio portrait vignette of Dutch jurist and philosopher Hugo de Groot (1583–1645) to the right, with a symbolic figure of Justice occupying the central field. The guilloche underprint provides tonal variation across the note's surface, and the date and place of issue are inscribed within the design. |

Doeve was a widely recognized Dutch political cartoonist — an unusual choice for banknote design, and his involvement gave this Enschedé-printed note a somewhat looser, more illustrative character than the engraved formality typical of the period. The Hugo de Groot series replaced the earlier "Sailing Ship" 10 Gulden in circulation and remained current until the mid-1960s.
Enschedé had printed Dutch banknotes continuously since the nineteenth century, and the 1953 series benefited from their in-house security paper with integrated watermark — no outsourcing of substrate required.
