Opmerkingen

The 1794 Polish insurrection notes — including this 10 Groszy piece — were issued under the Kościuszko Uprising, a last-ditch effort to prevent the final partition of Poland. The Dyrekcja Biletów Skarbowych was created specifically to finance the rebellion, issuing fractional denominations to cover small transactions at a moment when metallic currency had largely disappeared from circulation. The entire series was produced under wartime conditions in Warsaw.

Poland was partitioned out of existence by the end of that same year. These notes were never redeemed.
