Additional information

Ferdinand III of Sicily spent much of the 1790s navigating the fallout from revolutionary France — his Neapolitan territories would eventually fall to French forces in 1799, forcing his withdrawal entirely to the island. The 10 Grani was part of a silver coinage for Sicily that operated on a separate monetary footing from the mainland Regno di Napoli, a distinction that mattered politically as much as economically during this period of dynastic pressure.
