Issued to mark three centuries of Liechtenstein as a sovereign principality, a status the family secured in 1719 when Emperor Charles VI elevated the combined lordships of Schellenberg and Vaduz — territories the Liechtenstein family had purchased specifically to qualify for a seat in the Imperial Diet, land they had never actually visited. Anton Florian was the reigning prince at the moment of elevation, making him the nominal founder of the principality despite his family's ambitions being almost entirely dynastic and administrative rather than territorial.
