Reverse description The elaborate quartered coat of arms of the Principality of Liechtenstein occupies the central field, surmounted by the princely crown and supported on either side by ermine-lined mantling tied with decorative cords. The shield displays the traditional heraldic quarterings including the eagle of Silesia, the bars of Hungary, and the eagle of Troppau, among others. The legend 'FÜRSTENTUM LIECHTENSTEIN' curves along the upper periphery, while the denomination 'ZEHN FRANKEN' is inscribed in the lower field beneath the arms.

Additional information

Issued to mark three centuries of Liechtenstein as a sovereign principality, a status the family secured in 1719 when Emperor Charles VI elevated the combined lordships of Schellenberg and Vaduz — territories the Liechtenstein family had purchased specifically to qualify for a seat in the Imperial Diet, land they had never actually visited. Anton Florian was the reigning prince at the moment of elevation, making him the nominal founder of the principality despite his family's ambitions being almost entirely dynastic and administrative rather than territorial.
