Obverse description The obverse features the national coat of arms of Rwanda centrally positioned within a beaded inner circle, depicting a shield with a knot motif at the base, flanked by crossed spears, a sorghum stalk, and a branch, with a sun and the inscription REPUBLIKA Y'U RWANDA on a ribbon above. The denomination numeral '10' appears at the bottom center of the field, flanked by the Kinyarwanda inscriptions AMAFARANGA to the left and ICUMI to the right. The legend BANKI NKURU Y'U RWANDA arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin lettering. A further inscription on the ribbon within the arms reads UBUMWE UMURIMO GUKUNDA IGIHUGU, the national motto.

Additional information

Rwanda has issued a series of small-format silver fractionals under the "Year of the Lunar" program, a commercial bullion initiative rather than anything tied to the country's own monetary or cultural traditions. The Chinese zodiac connection is purely a licensing arrangement targeting collector markets in East Asia and the West.

At 2.59 g of .999 silver, these are among the lightest silver issues in the lunar series format — closer to a silver chip than a coin in any transactional sense.
