10 Francs - Voltaire type 1963

France's shift to new francs in 1960 left the Banque de France needing a redesigned small-denomination note that felt contemporary without abandoning the house engraving tradition. Armanelli and Poilliot — both staff engravers at the Imprimerie — handled the intaglio work on this note, and it shows: the depth of field in the lettering and border work reflects the high technical standard the Imprimerie maintained through the 1960s.

The series ran for a full decade across four signature combinations, the last pairing of Bouchet, Morant, and Vergnes dating to late 1973. Heavy circulation wear is the rule on surviving examples — a decade-long 10-franc note doesn't often come back clean.
