背面描述 A detailed linear engraving depicts the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, rendered in an architectural elevation view filling the central field. The temple facade features a colonnade of Ionic columns supporting a gabled entablature, with a figure of the goddess Artemis standing prominently before the structure. Stylised clouds and landscape elements appear in the background field. The inscription 'TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS AT EPHESUS' is engraved in three lines within the upper portion of the field. A decorative beaded border follows the curved lower edge of the puzzle-piece-shaped flan, consistent with the obverse.

附加信息

The Seven Wonders series has become a reliable revenue stream for small-nation mints, and Burundi has leaned into it hard. This issue commemorates the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, a structure that was burned down by Herostratus in 356 BC on the night Alexander the Great was born — a coincidence ancient writers found too meaningful to ignore. The temple was subsequently rebuilt on an even grander scale, only to be sacked by the Goths in 268 AD.

Burundi has no historical or geographic connection to Ephesus whatsoever.
