Obverse description Right-facing bust of Princess Grace of Monaco rendered in high relief, depicting her with an elegant chignon hairstyle characteristic of her later years. The engraver's signature R.B. BARON appears in the lower right field. A circular legend arcs around the upper periphery reading PRINCESSE GRACE DE MONACO, while the dates 1929 and 1982, separated by a dot, appear along the lower rim, commemorating her birth and death years. The portrait conveys a refined, naturalistic style consistent with mid-twentieth-century French medallic art.

Additional information

Issued the year after Grace Kelly's death in September 1982, this coin was released as Monaco's formal numismatic tribute following the car accident on the Corniche road above Monaco that killed her the previous year. Rainier III, who rarely authorized joint effigies during her lifetime on circulating coinage, approved the pairing posthumously.
