| 正面描述 | Central field displays the national arms of Mali: a circular device featuring a stylized rising sun at the base with radiating rays, crossed bow and arrows, and a fortified tower above, surmounted by a flying vulture with wings outstretched. The denomination FRS. 10 appears in the lower field beneath the arms. The legend REPUBLIQUE • DU • MALI arcs along the upper periphery, while the national motto UN PEUPLE • UN BUT • UNE FOI (One People, One Goal, One Faith) curves along the lower periphery, all separated by five-pointed stars. |

Mali struck this gold issue in 1967 under Modibo Keita, the country's first president and a committed pan-Africanist who had led the former French Soudan to independence in 1960 following the brief, fractious Mali Federation with Senegal. The federation collapsed after just two months. Keita's government issued commemorative gold coinage partly as an assertion of economic independence from France, though Mali remained deeply entangled with the franc zone throughout his rule.
He was overthrown in a military coup in November 1968 — just a year after this coin's issue date — ending the First Republic.
