Morocco's postwar coinage underwent a quiet administrative shift in 1947: though the French Protectorate remained firmly in place, the Monnaie de Paris began crediting Mohammed V more explicitly on circulating issues — a small concession that carried real political weight as nationalist sentiment in the Maghreb accelerated sharply after France's wartime humiliations. Mohammed V himself would be deposed and exiled to Madagascar by French authorities just six years later, in 1953.
