| 表面の説明 | The coat of arms of Niger occupies the central field, depicting a shield charged with a radiant sun flanked by crossed spears and a millet stalk, supported on either side by decorated curved horns and draped with a ribbon at the base. The denomination '10 FRs' is inscribed prominently above the arms in the upper field. The national motto 'FRATERNITÉ - TRAVAIL - PROGRÈS' curves along the upper periphery as the obverse legend. The date '1968' appears in the lower field beneath the arms, with the word 'ESSAI' incused discreetly at the bottom rim, identifying this piece as a trial strike. |

Niger's 1968 essai coinage was produced in the lead-up to the country's adoption of the CFA franc zone's standardized coinage, when individual Francophone African states were still issuing their own distinct trial pieces through the Paris Mint. Essais of this type were struck in strictly limited numbers — typically around 1,700 pieces — primarily for distribution to collectors and monetary officials rather than any circulating purpose.
The silver specification distinguishes this from the aluminum-bronze circulation proposal it was testing.
