Reverse description A panoramic African savanna scene dominates the reverse field, depicting Mount Kilimanjaro with its characteristic flat-topped snow-capped summit rising in high relief in the background. In the middle ground, two lions rest in the savanna grass beside an acacia tree, rendered in fine detail. The legend KILIMANJARO arcs along the upper periphery within a beaded border, and the date 2008 is inscribed in the lower exergue.

Additional information

The Democratic Republic of Congo has issued a long and varied series of small-format gold bullion and commemorative pieces in the 2000s, largely produced by European minting houses for the collector market rather than domestic circulation. These coins rarely if ever entered the Congolese economy.

Kilimanjaro sits in Tanzania, not the DRC — a geographical quirk that has never been satisfactorily explained in the series documentation.
