Additional information

The "Jean Silver" designation distinguishes this from the cupronickel 10 Francs issued concurrently — Luxembourg produced both in 1980, with the silver version struck specifically for collectors while the base-metal coin did the actual work of circulation. Grand Duke Jean, who reigned from 1964 until his abdication in 2000, presided over Luxembourg's transformation from a steel-dependent economy into one of Europe's principal financial centers, a shift already well underway by the time this piece was struck.
