Designed and printed in New York while Luxembourg was still under German occupation, this series was prepared in anticipation of liberation — part of a broader Allied effort to supply newly freed territories with ready currency before local institutions could resume normal function. The plates were engraved by ABNCo, whose work for European governments-in-exile during the war years constitutes a quietly significant chapter in wartime monetary logistics.
