The Democratic Republic of Congo has issued a long series of novelty collector pieces under Banque Centrale du Congo authority, largely targeting the thematic coin market rather than domestic circulation. This Ford Model T issue belongs to that wave of licensed commemoratives produced in the early 2000s through European trading houses — coins conceived entirely for foreign collectors, never intended to pass through Congolese hands.
The Model T itself ceased production in 1927 after fifteen million units.
