| Aanvullende informatie |
The Democratic Republic of Congo has issued commemorative silver pieces honoring foreign military figures with no connection to Central Africa whatsoever — Rommel among them. These were struck purely for the international collector market, a revenue strategy employed by several African nations throughout the 1990s and 2000s that had little to do with domestic monetary policy.
Rommel died by forced suicide in October 1944 after being implicated in the July 20 plot against Hitler — a circumstance that allowed the Nazi government to preserve his public image while eliminating him privately.
